Condemned Classics (Xbox 360) $4.99 Monolith Productions is garnering some highly enthusiastic attention at the moment. The team behind the warmly received No One Lives Forever has been in the press again recently following the release of the psychological shock shooter F.E.A.R. And the release of the Xbox 360 was just the excuse for a console foray after years of specialising in the PC end of the gaming scene. Teaming up with SEGA’s American arm they bring you Condemned: Criminal Origins. Continuing the developer’s current penchant for the darker side of things, Condemned puts you in the well-polished brogues of FBI Agent Thomas, whose chosen field is the study, pursuit and capture of serial killers. Track these death-worshipping humans like the animals they are through their preferred habitat – mazes of broken windows, crumbling brickwork and dilapidated tenements. Your long-developed skills as a detective and a range of precision forensic tools will help you, but you’ll have to rely just as much on split second reactions and brawling skills if you are to get out of your mission in one piece. Monolith made its name showing what could be done on games running through Windows, at a time when nobody believed in a DOS-less future for PC gaming. This technical expertise is brought to bear on the latest Microsoft confection, the 360, with lighting, texture mapping and filtering techniques employed that are like nothing you’ll have seen this generation. The first person viewpoint that Monolith favours is used, but this is still an adventure game where you execute melee moves on your quarries, as well as pick up and throw a variety of inanimate objects. Full compatibility with 5:1 surround sound will allow you to take advantage of your home movie set-up, and sophisticated and reactive enemy AI completes the package, making Condemned a suitable tech fest for a debut on such an able machine. You also get, as is the vogue these days, an involving plot with twists a plenty to keep you interested. If your new Xbox 360 has just joined an already impressive array of high-end entertainment technology in your front room, here’s just the thing to put your new setup through its paces. |

dark Sector (Xbox 360) $4.99 It's been a long road getting to the publication of Dark Sector. It was announced by Digital Extremes way back in the heady days of 2004, back when the Xbox 360 was still the Xbox 2. It's been that long coming. Four years on, and the year 2008 sees the release of the game in partnership with D3 Publisher of Europe. This third-person shooter has much in common with Gears of War in its cover system, forcing you to run from one spot to another or watch your brains decorate the wall. If you're going to spend your hard earned cash on Dark Sector, however, it won't be for just another third-person shooter. Nope, you'll be buying it for the glaive. 'The what now!?' you may well cry. Probably best for a bit of plot at this point. Players take on the role of Hayden Tenno, a special agent dispatched to a small former-USSR country named Lasria to take care of a nasty chap going by the name of Mezner. Mezner, you see, has gone and got his paws on a chemical weapon that has folk into all sorts of nasty, monstrous types with strange abilities. Not far into the mission, however, he gets exposed to the weapon and finds himself with a metal-like arm. A bladed disc grows out of his arm, and lo and behold, you have the glaive. The glaive can do all sorts of wonderful things. As well as being thrown for a spot of decapitation, it can be used for things like stealing fire, ice and electricity and then hurling them at your opponents. As you progress through the game, the number of abilities the glaive gives you will keep on trundling upwards. As you'd expect from any shooter in the age of the wonderful Interweb, Dark Sector comes complete with a multiplayer mode, supported either online or over LAN. |

The Godfather (Xbox 360) $12.99 One of the few liberties developer Electronic Arts has taken with this long-awaited game smacks you in the chops right from the start. Al Pacino's character Michael Corleone (the most important character in the movie after Don Vito Corleone) is not present. The Godfather puts you in the role of a character that did not feature in the film at all. With the packaging and all the hype surrounding the release of The Godfather, you would be wrong in believing it's all so-o-o authentic. The Xbox 360 version of The Godfather has had numerous enhancements and additions made to the gameplay. There is an enhanced BlackHand Control combat system, where you can punch, kick, grab and even choke an adversary with a stranglehold. Other exclusive enhancements made to this version of The Godfather include racket truck heists, extortions, targeting and living world gameplay. Several 360-exclusive missions and contract hits, new venues, a new family compound and much more interaction with key characters are all new additions to The Godfather for the Xbox 360. The game begins with your character witnessing his father being gunned down and murdered by rival gangsters. You are then thrust forward nine years into the future to the wedding scene from the opening of the film (at last, something familiar) where your mother is asking Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) to take you under his wing and offer you work. The Don sends his Capo, Luca Brasi to look after you and train you in the fine art of being a mobster. You are then taken to what EA call the 'Mob Face' part of the game, where you can customise how your character will look (face, hair and clothes etc.). The tools used in this section are very similar to those found in all EA Sports games. Now your character has taken shape, you begin as an unofficial enforcer for the Corleone family, which means your job is to muscle merchants into paying you protection money. Extorting businesses and taking over rackets is not all there is to the game, though. There are plenty of story missions to keep you occupied. Some missions are taken directly from the movie. You will have to drive the Don to the hospital after he is shot in the street, travel to Hollywood to re-enact the famous horse's head scene, and plant the pistol for Michael Corleone to use to kill Salazzo, to name but a few. In addition to the characters, the city of New York has been carefully rendered in detail, and you can spot specific scenes from the film as you travel the streets of Little Italy, Brooklyn, Midtown, Hell's Kitchen, and New Jersey. For the most part, the game has remained faithful to the legendary movie. Only after making a name for yourself will you move up the family ladder, starting from 'Outsider', and the game is completed when you become the Don of New York City, ruling over the other New York families (Tattaglia, Stracci, Cuneo and Barzini). |

Xbox 360 Kinect - Gotta Get Yourself Kinected!
The next generation in gaming is finally here and it's the Xbox 360 Kinect. After years of development of what was originally called Project Natal and with its brand new name, Kinect is set to take the gaming world by storm. But what is it that makes Microsoft's new baby the must have Christmas toy for 2010?
There's no doubt that gaming is big business and developers are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve the game play. From the very basic beginnings of green and grey square blocks on a screen that you could play simple tennis right up to the incredible HD graphics of modern warfare games we've had to use hand held controllers. Now with Xbox 360 Kinect there are no controllers - you are the controller!
The problem with gaming and gamers in particular is that it is so addictive and time consuming we've all become the stereo-typical "couch potato!" Hours and hours are eaten up glued to the screen trying to get to that all important next level. But now with Kinect Xbox 360 we can get off the couch, get on our feet and really have some fun. Every movement you make is picked up by the main Kinect sensor and you are just one big controller. It even has voice recognition!
So how does Kinect work?
1.In simple terms, the Xbox Kinect has technology that allows its sensor to see the room in 3D.
2.It has an RGB camera that delivers the basic 3 colour components (Red, Green, and Blue) which it uses for facial recognition and various other tasks
3.It has what's known as a Multi Array Microphone. This allows it remove ambient noises and pick up and recognise your voice by sound.
4.Kinect has a custom processor that through a specific Microsoft software layer gives it the ability to recognise a human body or more specifically - You!
From its original concept of project natal for the Xbox 360 the new Kinect system really is an incredible gaming system. With this concept of your whole body being the controller, health conscious parents who are worried that their kids are just slumped on the couch playing games for hours on end getting no exercise whatsoever can stop worrying. It's almost like the art of exercising without exercising! Playing you favourite Xbox 360 Kinect games has suddenly become healthy.
As a concerned parent I like the whole idea behind this new gaming system but remember as with all the latest must have technology these Xbox add-ons will be fast sellers. They are destined to be best sellers this Christmas and are on the top ten toys for Christmas lists of all the main toy retail outlets. Kinect for Xbox 360 release dates are scheduled for 10th of November 2010 in the UK and 5th of November 2010 in the US. So don't get left behind make sure you pre-order your Xbox 360 Kinect Now.
