Motion Sports (Xbox 360) $12.99 Microsoft's Xbox 360 “full body” controller, Kinect is getting plenty of support from Ubisoft. Motion Sports sees a set of six sports games that are aimed at getting gamers off the couch. The sports include Skiing, Soccer, American Football, Boxing: Horse Riding and Hang Gliding. Within each of the individuals disciplines, however, there is a variety of mini-games and challenges. In fact there are more than 40 challenges ranging from Super-G Slalom to taking (and saving) penalty kicks in tense shoot-outs. As this is a Kinect game there is plenty of scope for multi-player as well as single-player action. This means that more than one member of the family or group of friends can jump in and out of the games as the proceed. Scoring points in each challenge soon adds up to the gamer's profile too – and this all builds up and the progress can be tracked by each player. All of this is captured in video highlights (with commentary) by Kinect's camera and can be played back as a Sport Highlights package including that commentary. Videos of gamers in action, as well as their achievements, can also be shared online via Xbox Live. |

Condemned Classics (Xbox 360) $4.99 Monolith Productions is garnering some highly enthusiastic attention at the moment. The team behind the warmly received No One Lives Forever has been in the press again recently following the release of the psychological shock shooter F.E.A.R. And the release of the Xbox 360 was just the excuse for a console foray after years of specialising in the PC end of the gaming scene. Teaming up with SEGA’s American arm they bring you Condemned: Criminal Origins. Continuing the developer’s current penchant for the darker side of things, Condemned puts you in the well-polished brogues of FBI Agent Thomas, whose chosen field is the study, pursuit and capture of serial killers. Track these death-worshipping humans like the animals they are through their preferred habitat – mazes of broken windows, crumbling brickwork and dilapidated tenements. Your long-developed skills as a detective and a range of precision forensic tools will help you, but you’ll have to rely just as much on split second reactions and brawling skills if you are to get out of your mission in one piece. Monolith made its name showing what could be done on games running through Windows, at a time when nobody believed in a DOS-less future for PC gaming. This technical expertise is brought to bear on the latest Microsoft confection, the 360, with lighting, texture mapping and filtering techniques employed that are like nothing you’ll have seen this generation. The first person viewpoint that Monolith favours is used, but this is still an adventure game where you execute melee moves on your quarries, as well as pick up and throw a variety of inanimate objects. Full compatibility with 5:1 surround sound will allow you to take advantage of your home movie set-up, and sophisticated and reactive enemy AI completes the package, making Condemned a suitable tech fest for a debut on such an able machine. You also get, as is the vogue these days, an involving plot with twists a plenty to keep you interested. If your new Xbox 360 has just joined an already impressive array of high-end entertainment technology in your front room, here’s just the thing to put your new setup through its paces. |

SEGA Rally (Xbox 360) $9.99 The long-awaited next-gen appearance of Sega Rally is here, and it's definitely been worth the wait. The whole package of sound and vision does not disappoint, even on a non-HDTV, and Sega fans of an offroad bent (we know there are plenty of you out there) will lap up every mud-spattered, dust-blown moment. There is the usual selection of race modes available in the PS3 and 360 versions of Sega Rally: Quick Race is where you simply choose a car and track and get into the action in an instant; Championship enables you to race against others in an attempt to win three separate rally championships. You start in the Premier Championship with a small selection of cars and attempt to accumulate sufficient points by winning races to open up the next championship; Time Attack is where you cover as much distance as possible against the clock as the only car on the circuit. You can select any car and track combination, post a record distance covered in the time provided on the Leaderboards and compete against a ghost car for a further challenge. And finally there is the multiplayer option, where you can race friends in the same room, or head online to race players from around the world. Both the PS3 and 360 versions enable up to six players to compete online. |
