NHL 2K7 (Xbox 360) $1.99 NHL 2K7 for the 360 is the 2006 offering in 2K's Ice Hockey series and is a must-buy for any fans of the sport or Ice Hockey videogames. The game has breathtaking next generation graphics that the publishers 2K Sports have imaginatively entitled Cinemotion. You could be forgiven for believing that you were actually watching the game live on television with the amazing presentation. All-new crossover, gliding, turning and puck handling animations deliver a new look and feel to gameplay. Another new feature of the game is ProControl. This is where the right analog controls have been expanded to bring a far deeper level of action to the ice with improved passing and shooting mechanics. A new chemistry system has been introduced to NHL 2K7. The system mirrors today's NHL, as division rivalries heat up and home advantage really does make a difference. Both factors make the game by far the most realistic in the series. Audio Intuition is another feature which adds realism to proceedings. On-ice communication (which is, it must be said, mostly shouting) plays a key role in every game, as coaches and players call out offensive opportunities and critical defensive situations. NHL 2K7 for the Xbox 360 is a great game which has a depth of realism not yet seen in other games of this genre. If you are a fan of the sport or Ice Hockey games in general, then you should be more than happy with NHL 2K7. |

The Godfather (Xbox 360) $12.99 One of the few liberties developer Electronic Arts has taken with this long-awaited game smacks you in the chops right from the start. Al Pacino's character Michael Corleone (the most important character in the movie after Don Vito Corleone) is not present. The Godfather puts you in the role of a character that did not feature in the film at all. With the packaging and all the hype surrounding the release of The Godfather, you would be wrong in believing it's all so-o-o authentic. The Xbox 360 version of The Godfather has had numerous enhancements and additions made to the gameplay. There is an enhanced BlackHand Control combat system, where you can punch, kick, grab and even choke an adversary with a stranglehold. Other exclusive enhancements made to this version of The Godfather include racket truck heists, extortions, targeting and living world gameplay. Several 360-exclusive missions and contract hits, new venues, a new family compound and much more interaction with key characters are all new additions to The Godfather for the Xbox 360. The game begins with your character witnessing his father being gunned down and murdered by rival gangsters. You are then thrust forward nine years into the future to the wedding scene from the opening of the film (at last, something familiar) where your mother is asking Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) to take you under his wing and offer you work. The Don sends his Capo, Luca Brasi to look after you and train you in the fine art of being a mobster. You are then taken to what EA call the 'Mob Face' part of the game, where you can customise how your character will look (face, hair and clothes etc.). The tools used in this section are very similar to those found in all EA Sports games. Now your character has taken shape, you begin as an unofficial enforcer for the Corleone family, which means your job is to muscle merchants into paying you protection money. Extorting businesses and taking over rackets is not all there is to the game, though. There are plenty of story missions to keep you occupied. Some missions are taken directly from the movie. You will have to drive the Don to the hospital after he is shot in the street, travel to Hollywood to re-enact the famous horse's head scene, and plant the pistol for Michael Corleone to use to kill Salazzo, to name but a few. In addition to the characters, the city of New York has been carefully rendered in detail, and you can spot specific scenes from the film as you travel the streets of Little Italy, Brooklyn, Midtown, Hell's Kitchen, and New Jersey. For the most part, the game has remained faithful to the legendary movie. Only after making a name for yourself will you move up the family ladder, starting from 'Outsider', and the game is completed when you become the Don of New York City, ruling over the other New York families (Tattaglia, Stracci, Cuneo and Barzini). |

FIFA 08 (Xbox 360) $1.99 If you've been paying attention for the last 12 months or so, you'll doubtless recognise the two faces that adorn the cover of FIFA 08: they're the same ones - Rooney and Ronaldinho - that featured on the cover of FIFA 07, of course. This doesn't mean, however, that Electronic Arts has been laying around getting fat and lazy during pre-season training. Well, maybe the art department... Seriously though, EA has upped the ante once again with FIFA 08. The game challenges players to master the skills required to play like a pro football player. Gamers can now experience the very same highs and lows of real-world players and handle the challenges they face on a daily basis. For the first time ever, fans playing FIFA 08 will face the pressure to improve their game that real-world players go through every day. In the PC, PS2, PS3, and 360 versions, a new play mode called Be A Pro puts you in the role of a solitary player and challenges you to master the same disciplines as the real football player, from positioning and tackling to reading the play and passing. The popular Interactive Leagues feature, first introduced in FIFA 07, makes its debut on 360 and PS3, enabling you to represent your team online against your rivals in the FA Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division. All in all, for serious soccer types, FIFA 08 is certainly worth a look. With 30 leagues, 23 real stadia, and ooh, oodles of players featured, there's surely something/somewhere/someone for everyone. |

Top Spin 2 (Xbox 360) $4.99 Fans of the original Top Spin, which was released on PC, PS2 and Xbox, will possibly be a mite irked at the appearance of a Top Spin 2 for Xbox 360. Why no PC/PS2/Xbox version this time around, eh? Ho-hum… For those lucky/affluent enough to be in possession of a 360, everything that made Top Spin such a great game is back and made even better. The player-creator is upgraded with whole new Digital Identity. This feature really makes you feel as if you are part of the action, serving ace after ace, or on centre court at Wimbledon with the pressure on. Characters are even more realistic and rich in detail due to HD technology. There is also a online feature which further adds to the gaming experience. With Digital Identity, you can create extremely realistic player models and customise them with many extra details (hairstyles, shirts, shorts and shoes, etc.). You can make a player your own with unique attributes and even different temperaments. All the Grand Slam events (Australia, U.S.A., French and Wimbledon) are available, as well as loads of other smaller tournaments in which you can perfect your back-hand. There is a whole host of top players (24 to be precise) available to choose from, team up with, or do battle against, such as Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova, to name but a few. The story mode is the Grand Slam mode. You are in control of your selected player from the beginning of his or her career, starting with training camps and junior championships to fully-fledged events. Eventually, you will guide them through all four Grand Slam tournaments. You are able to select the style of tennis you want your character to play. As well as all the normal shots available to your player (lobs, slices and back-hands, etc.) there is also the option of risk shots and advanced controls. The latter gives you the opportunity to beat your opponent shot by shot. |

FIFA 11 (Xbox 360) $4.99 It's difficult to always keep adding fresh new elements to a long-standing, best-loved football game series. But EA Sports have stepped up once again for FIFA 11, adding even more gameplay tweaks and feature bonuses to make this annual update worth your while. Pro Passing gives players complete control over their player, as now a pass is only as successful as the skills of the person holding the controller. You always need to be paying attention to what's happening on the pitch, otherwise your passes can end up falling short of the mark, or being handed to the opposing team. Skill, situations on the pitch and urgency all come into play for a clean pass as well, so stay on your toes. The real difference in FIFA 11 comes in its new Personality+ system, which gives players individual abilities that are reflected in the game. Each player acts and plays differently, and it is up to you to notice those characteristics and pass wisely in order to maximise your team's potential. Over 36 attributes and 57 traits can be found within each player, and will act just like their real-life counterparts. With this, you can truly get into the game and use your team's advantages and weaknesses to your benefit. FIFA 07 (Xbox 360) $1.99 Will EA's FIFA 07 have the legs to challenge Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 this time around? The answer to that question looks like being a firm yes. Of course, this version of the FIFA series is the most extensive to date with 27 leagues from 20 nations, which include the FA Premier League, Bundesliga, French League, MLS (America), J- League (Japan) and K-League (Korea). The biggest attraction of FIFA has always been the official licenses and FIFA 07 is certainly the most authentic football game on the market, with over 510 teams accurately represented with correct kits and badges, not to mention a host of real stadiums from around the world. There is also a new intelligent AI that ensures your team on the pitch makes realistic decisions, like finding space and passing like professionals. The game engine has been completely overhauled, meaning that you now have to make decisions, employ real-world tactics and think like a footballer in order to win matches. The gameplay has been vastly improved. For example, players jostle and collide realistically while trying to win balls. The game's new ball physics accurately recreate bouncing, skidding and topspin. It is also possible to apply topspin or backspin to the ball for more creative set plays and shots. There is a much more sophisticated shooting mechanic present in FIFA 07 than in its predecessor. This gives you greater control for pinpoint accuracy. Goalkeeper intelligence is authentic, with a far greater variety of saves and deflections present than ever before. EA have even authentically captured the playing styles and signature moves of world superstars, including Ronaldinho, David Beckham and Thierry Henry. FIFA 07 offers gamers an updated and improved Manager Mode. New to this version of FIFA is the ability to create your own club. Player values and wages have also been updated to be even more realistic than ever before. It is vital to remember that each decision you make as a manager will have a profound effect on both player performance and welfare. Enhanced CPU decisions now mean that rival managers are even more strategic in their own pursuit of trophies. Up to eight people can play against each other in the FIFA 07 Lounge to see who really is the best. Another new feature, if you have an Internet connection, is EA Sports Interactive Leagues (FA Premier League, Bundesliga, French League and Mexican 1st Division). This is a new online mode that enables you to pit your club against supporters of other real world clubs. Play your games according to the real-world schedule and track your team's performance in the league table. While online, real-life breaking news, live scores and results will be shown on your screen 24/7. |

MotoGP 09/10 (Xbox 360) $12.99 It's time for fans of two-wheeled racing to dust off their virtual leathers – MotoGP 09/10 is here with not one but two seasons for us to race through. Yes, that's two seasons. The game comes with all the '09 season content (tracks, bikes, riders, teams) in the box. The 2010 goodies will be along as DLC, which is good news for racing fans as it means we'll also be getting the new Moto2 bikes – the 600cc class. That also means it will come with the new Silverstone track. And there's more! That also means the new Balaton track out in Hungary, which will feature later on in the season, will be up for grabs. Plenty of new goodies for bike fans to get to grips with. Championship mode is the meat of the game - a recreation of the MotoGP 09/10 season. As you dive in, you can pick your favourite rider and bike from any of the classes (125cc, 250cc, MotoGP – 800cc). With the 250ccs you have to take a bit more care on your throttle control or the back end is likely to slide out a bit more. Further up the scale, the 800cc bike is all about taking great care on the throttle control. The bike can slide out a lot more easily and you really have to pay attention to the state of your tyres. If you're not getting the picture – developer Monumental Games has put a lot of work into the way different classes of bike handle. This year also marks the introduction of the racing line for... we'll say 'less seasoned riders'. That comes from the developers racing the track over and over again, generating the best lap line. If, however, you outdo the dev team, the line will update to your fastest line. That can be uploaded to the network and then downloaded by your friends, so you can show them all how to be the speediest of racers. Career mode is for the more thoughtful racer. In a nutshell it takes you through some of the finer points of management - it's about building your own team, gaining reputation and hiring staff into that team. The game also supports up to twenty players in online multiplayer – a number that the creators claims is a first for racing games. With two seasons and all those features to go at, there's plenty on offer for bike fans in MotoGP 09/10. |

Portal 2 (Xbox 360) $19.99 If you're one of the few people who needs Portal 2 explaining: it's the follow-up to Valve's 2007 physics-based puzzler that was named, 100% appropriately, Portal. In both games, you're Chell, a test subject made to jump through an increasingly brain-scrambling array of hoops that also double up as holes in the fabric of space. Testing out a portal gun under the watchful (and double-demonic) eye of AI GLaDOS, you have to navigate various hazards and obstacles to get through test chambers and stay alive. Completing the puzzles demands the creative use of the portals and the sometimes freaky effects they create. For example, a prominent feature of the first game were the puzzles that required you to jump from a great height to acquire momentum that would then fling you out on a horizontal axis over a gap blocking your way. See? This time out, Valve has added length, scope and new gameplay features to create something that will stretch your brain in awkward directions in the best possible way. For example, you'll now find laser redirection cubes that you can combine with portals to hit eight different targets with one single death ray. There's also plenty more plot for the sequel, centring around... nah, we're not actually about to tell you. But, needless to say, there's a bigger feel to this chunkier sequel. The biggest advance in Portal 2, however, has to be the co-op play. This is a bespoke mode separate to the single-player levels that has most definitely been designed for two players. This is the complete opposite of campaign modes that you can find a skinny extra layer of depth in if you add a second player. This is a significant chunk of the game that you just could not do without a second player. Portal 2 will give your brain a right old hammering, and you'll love every minute of it. |

Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360) $9.99 Ryu is back, and he's taking his ninja-ing activities from New York to Tokyo to the Netherworld (the hellish one, not the saucy one) and back again. It's Ninja Gaiden 2! As far as plot goes... well, there is one. Ryu's on a mission to avenge his clan or some such thing. The future of the human race is at stake. All in a day's work for an awesome ninja. We all know, however, that the point is really fast, bloody gameplay, and that's what we're set to get. The game - which follows up Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox back in 2004 - will feature a brand spanking new gameplay engine built from scratch by Team Ninja and developer Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of the Dead or Alive franchise. It also comes with a new auto-health regeneration system, a mechanic set to subtly shift the way you play. The biggie, however, is the new obliteration techniques. Nowadays, dismembering a foe isn't enough to stop them dead. The problem with that is that they'll attempt to suicide bomb you. This is why you'll want to use an obliteration technique - different weapons come with different moves - to wipe them off the face of the planet. Also new to the series this time round is the cleverly-titled 'Ninja Cinema', which will enable players to record their exploits and share them over Xbox Live. You'll even be able to indulge your inner film noir fan with a black and white filter. Live by the sword. Make a big red mess. Avenge your clan. Do it in whatever order you like. |

FlatOut Ultimate Carnage (Xbox 360) $9.99 FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is perhaps one of the best examples of the smash-em up ‘Destruct-O-Racer’ genre to date. The first two outings in the FlatOut series have been well received and it’s fair to say that they have been good, solid racing games, which have appealed to fans of (virtually) smashing up cars. Basically, they did pretty much what they claimed on the box – deliver a smash-tastic arcade driving experience that involved lots of skidding about, crashing into both the other cars and the destructible buildings dotted around the tracks and, most satisfyingly of all, flinging your ragdoll driver out through the windscreen in a range of hilarious mini-games (ragdoll bowling, ragdoll darts and so on). FlatOut Ultimate Carnage has been rebuilt from the ground up and specifically developed to squeeze the best out of the Xbox 360. The game features twelve cars racing on screen at any one time, five all-new single player and two all-new multiplayer game modes over Xbox Live, and an amazing 8,000 dynamic and fully-smashable objects on each track for you to run over and smash the hell out of: tyre stacks you can scatter across the track, cardboard boxes, lampposts inviting you to destroy them - so you can smash to smithereens pretty much anything and everything you see on and around the track. The graphics, lighting and shadowing in the game really stand out, making each smash, crash and buckle just that little bit more deliciously naughty. FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is a superbly fun and highly polished arcade smash’em’up that just happens to feature some impressively realistic physics - cars that feel and behave in many ways like normal cars feel. Well, like normal cars would feel if you were an insane psychopath with a death-wish. In addition to smashing up your competitors at every possible opportunity - the more your nitro bar increases and – ultimately – the faster and more destructive you become. Bear in mind that each car has 25,000 polygons and 40 separate individually destructible parts and you get a good idea of how battered most of these cars look if they manage to make it to the third and final lap of a race, when the surrounding track environments really do look like something from a Mad Max movie. There are three types of car class on offer in the game: the beginner rust-buckets in the Derby class, the slightly more presentable (and much more powerful) Street class cars, and the behemoths in the Race class. There is also a host of different single player and multiplayer modes. The single-player experience boasts both a traditional career mode, where you can progressively pimp your car by buying upgrades as you progress through the various urban, backwoods and raceway-based tracks. Then there's Carnage mode, which is self-explanatory. It is aimed at the player who wants a quick fix of high-adrenalin carnage races and, yep, some of those hilarious ragdoll driver flinging mini-games. Finally the multiplayer mode on X |
