The Saboteur (Pc Game)
The video game world and the Second World War are living together with a great love story, but never a studio had decided to approach things like a Grand Theft Auto. So for its latest project, Pandemic has been leading us to the costume of a grimy mechanic / driver that are converted into specialist demolition occupied in Paris. This change in perspective associated with the usual or casual productions from Pandemic (Destroy All Humans, Mercenaries) will be regreted to the demise of the studio?
The Saboteur (PC Game)
Sean knows nothing
History outside the box, The Saboteur is therefore suggested, that we revive the Second World War on the side of civilians and resistance rather than on the Eastern Front, the beaches of Normandy or the Pacific Islands. At first glance, it does not deny a bit of originality to its level as long as the game from Pandemic moved - on paper -- a relatively open world where you can walk the streets of Paris at will... and that's where the problems start actually, but put all things in context.
The Saboteur (PC Game)
We therefore embody a certain character Sean Devlin. Irish by birth but French and Italian by adoption, the guy tried to go at Paris in the future by joining the French capital and the team card Vittore Morini. Single engineer, he even became the official pilot of the team and the game starts then it just being robbed of victory in Grand Prix Saarbrucken by Kurt Dierker, a German pretentious, but the armed will be devilishly as long as quickly learned by our poor Sean and his hapless best friend, Jules Rousseau, destroying the car of the Teutonic base.
The Saboteur (PC Game)
Unfortunate, since French is tortured to death by Dierker and his troupe of villains - Nazis of course - who are British spy. When Sean comes to their slip who is to be found amidst the invasion of France by German troops and eventually he finds refuge - with Vittore and Veronica, the sister of Julius - among parents of the latter, cabaret at Le Belle in Paris. Three months passed and made a mix between twist of fate and taste for bullshit, Sean is the brave enlisted in the Resistance who organized Paris.
Luc Gaudin, emblematic of the Resistance, he entrusts tasks increasingly important and is of course up to us to run. Just as it is normal to see in this picture of France that a series of grotesque stereotypes and do not try to find any evidence a little bit realistic / truthful in The Saboteur, it takes no more than two minutes to reach Le Havre, starting from the Bastille, the penicillin-common currency and send the Libyans ambassadors to Paris ...Examples of this type, we find it very regularly and the notion of time seems to have completely escaped our friendly developers who are already talking of returning veterans from the east. It is therefore clear that we should not be a stickler for principles to appreciate The Saboteur. It should also not be a stickler about the credibility of the scenario either, since our brave Sean quickly became the handyman for a passive resistance Parisian who is well with him, but let's ignore that and focus on the game.
In Devlin's skin, we must make a lot of odd jobs on behalf of the Resistance in general, but also and especially resistant in particular do not hesitate to give us their dirty work in exchange for one or two small services. Similarly, we must work with the leaders of the black market, make buddy with the secret services of the British crown and all this while Devlin does not seek a single thing: finding Dierker to avenge the brave Jules .
In terms of gameplay, the missions are telescoped through a more or less open in the vein of Grand Theft Auto. A map of Paris / Province is (fairly) accessible through the menu and there you see the location of our contacts and targets who trust us. Depending on circumstances, it may be to dynamite a fuel tank to blow up a bridge, stealing the car of a prominent Nazi, release prisoners, to steal a sort of Ark of the Covenant of the poor, to search the catacombs and even travel zeppelin.
Open World is not to say that one has access to everything at once. By the way of Grand Theft Auto, areas of Paris are unlocked gradually, over the main timeline and German occupation forces, Sean is not free to do what he wants. In some cases, it is better to play the infiltration, or even wear a German uniform to be more discreet. This will then avoid attracting attention by carrying a weapon in sight, running or climbing the areas!
The Saboteur does not exploit enough of the idea of open world and side quests available that are neither numerous enough nor sufficiently interesting.
Rather pleasant, strolling to the city of Paris has an undeniable charm, even if developers have not cracked it head to try to model it correctly. So it is again no question of any realism, but the use of black and white to depict the sorrow of the occupied areas produced its small effect ... and even more so once the largest missions successful, Devlin gives color to the real world around! He obviously does not need more to make friends.
