What Happened to the Lost Videogame?
Whatever happened to the awaited LOST video game? Rumor has it that the development video game solely based on the hit television series LOST, which is being created by UBISoft's Montreal studio, has been put on hold for the time being. However, there hasn't been an official announcement on when and why it was temporarily ceased and when it will be continued. In fact, the last news about the video game was that a sample version has already been demoed to producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and they were pleased with what UBISoft has done.
The July/August issue of the official LOST magazine featured a tidbit comment by the producers on the elusive game. In the Questions and Answers section, a fan wrote in and asked how the game was looking and a very enthusiastic Lindelof replied, "From what I have seen? Ridiculously AWESOME!" Before that little piece of information came to publication, Lindelof and Cuse also gave favorable reviews of a piece of playable footage they were shown by the developers on the producers' April 16th, 2007 podcast.
As for game content and storyline, Lindelof and Cuse gave some information on that right here in my conversation with them in March. Lidelof commented on the game's plot and said, "We pitched them a concept for the game and they’re basically going to run with it but I think much in the same way that the Star Wars first person shooter games worked, where you’re new characters exploring similar environments in the movies that you already know."
The video game may represent either an alternate reality or a prequel to the events of the show, judging by some of the locations fans can expect to see. Cuse added in the interview that it was possible that the fans may see a glimpse of the Swan hatch again, which was (famously) destroyed in the second season finale.
A reason for the silence on the game's updates could be that even though UBISoft has the license to the game, ABC/Disney still has the last say on promotion of the game since prominent promotion of the game does dovetail with marketing efforts of the brand as a whole. Bottomline is when news does come out about the game, make sure that the fans catch it.
