Digital Games and Learning $96.59 Why do we have to scrutinize the influence of digital games in todays education? Today, our children are immersed in electronic media. They are starting to expose and to use technologies and media at a much younger age than previously thought. As a matter of fact, the uses of computerassisted instruction (CAI) and multimedia in education have been parts of the instructional system. Interestingly, despite having the same multimedia capability as CAI software, the potential learning impact of digital games is often discounted by parents and educators. This negative impression toward children playing digital games comes from results of outdated studies about childrens gameplaying behaviors. The purpose of this book is to raise the level of awareness of the importance of digital games in child learning. This study tries to create a connection between digital games with childrens cognition and determine if digital games facilitate childrens cognitive learning processes. The book is addressed to professionals in instructional technology like educators and instruction designers. It is also directed towards researchers in childrens play, computer and video games, and instructional materials. Author: Chuang, Tsung Yen Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 144 Publication Date: 2007/10/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.61 x 6.69 x 0.31 inches |

Can Video Games Contribute to Childhood Anxiety?
We all know that video games have been linked to violence that children can emulate because of what the video games expose them to. Now, it seems they can also increase children's anxiety.
The video games in question are those that are really scary for the children or have a lot of violence in them.
This is because the body of the child who is exposed to this type of video game releases adrenalin at that moment of exposure, where the heart rate of the child increases and other things in the body happen.
If your child experiences the symptoms that happen during an anxiety attack such as sweating, headaches, shakes, nausea and others, there will be no indication however that it is as a result of the exposure that they have had with video games.
However, parents just need to keep a watchful eye on the amount of time their children spend playing video games. Most importantly, parents should know the type of video games that their children engage in.
You can also monitor how their behavior is like after playing those games. Also, if they are dreaming or having nightmares about things they s in the video games, then it will be a problem for the child, and the parent will need to get rid of those video games and monitor the time that their kids are spending playing them.
I am in no way saying that video games should be banned completely in your house, just those that are harming your child. Other video games have been shown to be instrumental in the child's development.
There are games that impact the child in a positive way and those should be encouraged, such as games that encourage them to play a sport such as golf or tennis.
So in conclusion, some video games may increase the level of anxiety in your child. Be aware of the games your child plays and what they are exposed to on TV. Open the lines of communication between you and your child so they feel free to share whatever may be bothering them.
When it comes to anxiety in children, the best treatment is Anxiety Free Child Program, which is designed exclusively for children.
