Writing for Video Games $19.49 Video games is a lucrative new market for scriptwriters but writing for video games is complex and very different to traditional media (tv or film). This practical guide shows how you can adapt your writing skills to this exciting medium. |

Single table SNgo
what sngs on Stars have 2,000 starting chipstacks? (I've never seen any over 1500 on that site).
Also, the player traffic on sngs on Stars & Fulltilt is far greater than Carbon at any buyin levels above the super micros, so unless you want to sit there drinking coffee, waiting for one game to open up, my advice would be to play on the sites (for those specific buyins) that have high volume of player traffic.
I also disagree with this 'suggested sng strategy'. To be playing any weak Ace in early levels is just plain bad. If you can limp in behind a couple of other limpers in later position with a decent speculative hand, then sure.. go for it. But generally speaking, there isn't a whole lot of time for playing like this in a sng (the more you do this, you will just be spewing off chips,.. better to hang onto them and get them in good on a big hand and then play it aggressively).
A very brief overview of typcial 'winning' sng strategy, is to avoid confrontation in early levels. Play tight in early going (tight not to be confused with passive,.. play tight but Agressive).
As blinds begin to escalate and stealing the blinds becomes necessary for survival, make sure you're getting your share of the blinds pretty much every orbit. If you're on a particularly aggressive table and can't find spots to get your chips into the pot first, then try to look for 're-steal' oppurtunities (ie. if a particularly aggress. BTN or CO is raising on your blinds regularly, then fire out a re-steal raise).
key strategy in sng is to try to maintain a decent stack and to stick around till the game approaches the bubble. Winning hands in early going isn't going to win the game for you (if you can win a hand.. great... what I mean is.. your object isn't to try to win a bunch of pots like it would be in a cash game,.. risking chips from your stack is way more detrimental than the ones you'd gain.... your tournament equity doesn't increase proportionally to how much it would decrease if you lost those hands). You need to maintain a decent enough stack size so that you'll have Fold Equity once the blinds increase and the game becomes more of a shove/fold deal.
Also, in later stages of game (in most circumstances) don't let your stack fall below 10bb's (unless blinds have gotten so huge that all the players are well below this mark). And once you are below 10bbs, you preflop move is now limited to fold or shove.
To get decent at sng's I'd advise getting educated on I.C.M. (Independent Chip Model) and to know how & why this affects the game. Even if you choose to not play by this principle, it's good to get yourself educated about it because most of the players on your table will be.
A Great SNG book is Collin Moshmann's SNG Strategy book. Well worth reading it for sure!!!
GL on the tables!
Start off tight to see how the other players are playing. Try to pick up any tells or betting patterns by your opponents and see if anyone is controlling the action. Base your play off these factors and anything else that you may pick up. Ultimately, you want to win the sng, but no one can win it on the first hand, but most definately lose on the first hand.
