Wolfenstein (PS3) $13.95 1992's Wolfenstein 3D will be forever known as the crazy, cartoony, Robot-Hitler-starring game that propelled the first person shooter into one of the most popular genres in the video games market. Raven Software and Activision Blizzard (with a little help from series creator id Software) have brought secret agent B.J. Blazkowicz back to our monitors (or TVs) as he attempts to stop the Nazis from using the powers of the strange occult force known as Black Sun. The Nazis (damn them!) are trying to get to the source of the Black Sun where they're going to create a weapon of ultimate destruction. Between our reality and the Black Sun lies The Veil which also allows BJ to discover Veil Powers that will help him in his mission. These powers can be used in conjunction with each other, so you can, for example, use one power to look through certain objects, spot an enemy and then use another power to enhance your firepower so you can shoot through the obstruction to kill your opponent. With the addition of puzzles, treasure hunting, weapon and power upgrades to the FPS format and a multiplayer mode that will feel familiar to fans of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, this latest Wolfenstein game is sure to keep fans playing for quite some time. |

Darksiders (PS3) $10.95 Post-apocalyptic settings seem to be the bread and butter of action/adventure-based games these days. It could be that it's a product of the ambiguous times we live in, but games makers seem to be a little bit obsessed with the End of the World as We Know it. Seldom has there been so literal an embodiment of that mentality as in Darksiders, however. The Apocalypse has happened. We're not talking the nuclear kind, or the alien attack kind or the swine flu kind. We're talking the full-on, biblical four horsemen kind. That's your REAL Apocalypse. Thing is, it's come a bit off schedule. Read: early. War (the horseman) was found at the scene and he's taking the blame for it. Determined to get to the bottom of it all, off he trots to drill down through all the mystery and get to The Truth. When you're War, however, it's not about asking questions and putting the clues together, it's about messing people up with your Great Big Sword. It's about hack-'n'-slash brawling, exploration and puzzling. The action plays out largely as a mixture of brawling and light platforming. Players overcome all manner of undead, demony monsters, and they have quite an arsenal to do it with. For example, you've got chains that might look familiar if you've played God of War. These can be used to not just take out enemies, but to manipulate the environment. There's also the X Blabe, a typically-massive tool that, once thrown, will return to you. It can also pick up environmental effects such as flames. You get the idea. Also up for grabs is an ever-growing array of abilities, such as some ethereal wings that can be used for gliding – helpful for exploration and platforming – and the blade geyser which sees (great big!) pointy things shooting from the ground around War. You're going to need the whole lot, too, because the boss battles are nothing short of epic... On top of all that there's plenty to explore, with huge great sprawling levels littered with physics-based puzzles to bend your head around. So, what's War good for? Darksiders, that's what. |

Brink (PS3) $12.99 Built by Enemy Territory: Quake Wars developer Splash Damage, Brink is a first-person shooter set on The Ark, a seaborne city existing in a post-apocalypse-y sort of a world in which water levels have risen and The Ark may be the last bastion of humanity. See, no ships have been seen for some 20 years and The Ark's bosses, convinced this factoid heralds the end of humanity beyond floating city limits, have stopped anyone leaving. That might be OK if The Ark wasn't massively over-populated, with the have-nots living in derelict slums and the haves living in posh splendour. This state of affairs breeds discontent, and revolution is in the air. A resistance movement is looking to break out of the city, while security forces attempt to keep humanity together on The Ark. You can play as one of four character classes as both security and the resistence. The soldier carries ammo to resupply teammates and, at appropriate points, blows stuff up. The medic heals his comrades and buffs (boosts) their health. The engineer repairs strategic assets, buffs allies' weapons and creates handy bits and pieces like machine gun turrets. The operative sneaks around in disguise and gathers intel on things like enemy positions and where land mines are lurking. If you've played Team Fortress you've got an idea of how it works. Rather than being pinned to a class for the duration of Brink - or even for a single mission - you can chop and change throughout the course of the game at command, health and supply posts. Splash Damage has built what it's calling the SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) System into the game. To most of us, that means you can pull off free-running moves across elements of the environment by simply running at them with the left bumper button held down. Brink isn't really separated into single- and multi-player components – at least not in the way most of us are used to. The campaign can be played either on your lonesome with the help of bots or with other humans online. Beyond the fact that humans and bots might behave a bit differently, gameplay won't be altered a jot one way or the other. And, frankly, Splash Damage has done a convincing job of making the AI behave like human players. Brink is a decidedly 'core' game for experienced FPS places. If you fit that bill, you'll find a deep, strategy-laden game in Brink. |

[PROTOTYPE] (PS3) $13.95 Free roaming, super-powered games are becoming a bit of a trend in the summer of 2009 – just look at inFamous and [PROTOTYPE] Both titles are free-roaming adventures featuring a super-human person/creature/thing as they fight in a dilapidated city for their own survival and something or other. Naturally, the main thing that will set [PROTOTYPE] apart is in its storyline, and you’re given a pretty intriguing premise as you get to know the lead character, Alex Mercer. Poor old Alex has been the subject to human testing, as a lethal virus spreads throughout the country and turns the nation into a bunch of strange zombie creatures. As a result, he hungers for blood like the rest of the horde, but has somehow maintained his own conscience and free will. The game aims to piece together Alex’s forgotten past and the events that led to the experimentation. Ultimately, he’s seeking revenge on whoever made him into the monster that he is today. Not that it’s any bad thing for the player, as you get to play with all the cool new moves and abilities Alex has gained since his time under the knife. The game has you running from one location in the city to another, using different ‘forms’ to tackle various types of enemies. Facing some cops that are trying to stop him from progressing, Alex’s arms will turn into huge black claws, which can then be used in combat to shred the enemy to pieces. Later on you'll get to use boulder-type hands to knock out huge tanks and large scythe-limbs to take on the zombified horde itself, with the abilities continuing to come in thick and fast. Getting around New York is a breeze as well. [PROTOTYPE] seems to want to give you a realistic world in the style of Grand Theft Auto IV, populated with NPC citizens and a working police force, with a character that can systematically break all of the rules. It’s a great escape from reality when you feel like the most powerful guy in the world, wreaking havoc on citizens and evil zombies alike. There’s another element to [PROTOTYPE] that gets introduced as you progress through the initial chapters, and it’s the classic ‘disguise’. In grabbing people and performing a specific move to consume them, you basically absorb their identity in a Shang Tsung stylee. This adds to the roster of disguises you can use to evade capture from the SWAT teams and conspirators that are out to take you in and assumedly slam a bullet in your head. [PROTOTYPE] seems to have the hallmarks of one of those summer blockbuster popcorn flicks; an enigmatic lead, a twisted plotline, awesome and devastating powers and the sense of exhilaration you get from bouncing over cars and running up council flats. |

Start The Party! (PS3) $9.99 Sony has had a lot of success with the PlayStation 2 EyeToy Play games, and with the release of the PS3 Move peripheral it makes sense that we get to enjoy another round of augmented reality-based mini-games. Start The Party! allows you to turn your living room into a funhouse once more, with over 20 different games to play and a Custom Party Mode to arrange them in any order you like! The PlayStation Eye tracks your body and shows an image of you on the TV, while the PlayStation Move is used to interact with the virtual objects to win points. Slice melons in half with your pirate sword, brush the teeth of a crocodile, pop various colours of pufferfish and whack pinatas, draw shapes, fan parachuters to raft-based safety, trim hair and swat bugs with your friends – pass the controller around for up to three additional players for maximum enjoyment. After you've beaten the clock (and your friends) in every game, a slideshow displays all the funniest photos of you moving around the room like a crazy person. Here's a meta-game for you: try and see if you can complete any of these mini-games without looking silly and having awesome fun at the end of it. Now there's the real challenge in this game. |
Can I install a wifi card in a PS3 20gb system?
I know I can always just use an adapter; but can I just install a card inside the machine, and save some bulk?
Well, this is all hypothetical, as I don't have it yet.
Really though, from what I've read, I'm trying now to have the guy consider giving me back my money.
I think the wifi and flash-card (but mostly the wifi) is worth the extra $70.
Sure you can,if you can squeeze it in there and have great electronics skills and knowledge, but personally I would never try it, it would be easier to upgrade to a 60gb PS3.
