It explores the core principles that drive advertising, using a lively voice that goes beyond academic theory. Why You Should Read Kafka Before Yo $14.39 Everybody knows the face of Franz Kafka whether they have read any of his works or not. And that brooding face carries instant images: bleak and threatening visions of an inescapable bureaucracy nightmarish transformations uncanny predictions of the Holocaust. But while Kafka's genius is beyond question the image of a mysterious sickly shadowy figure who was scarcely known in his own lifetime bears no resemblance to the historical reality. Franz Kafka was a popular and well-connected millionaire's son who enjoyed good-time girls brothels and expensive porn who landed a highly desirable state job that pulled in at least $90 000 a year in today's dollars for a six-hour day who remained a loyal member of Prague's German-speaking Imperial elite right to the end and whose work was backed by a powerful literary clique. Here are some of the prevalent Kafka myths: *Kafka was the archetypal genius neglected in his lifetime. *Kafka was lonely. *Kafka was stuck in a dead-end job struggling to find time to write. *Kafka was tormented by fear of sex. *Kafka was unbendingly honest about himself to the women in his life - too honest. *Kafka had a terrible domineering father who had no understanding of his son's needs. *Kafka's style is mysterious and opaque. *Kafka takes us into bizarre worlds. James Hawes wants to tear down the critical walls which generations of gatekeepers---scholars biographers and tourist guides---have built up around Franz Kafka giving us back the real man and the real significance of his splendid works. And he'll take no prisoners in the process. |

The Online Advertising Playbook $34.95 Praise for The Online Advertising Playbook "Finally, someone has documented all we know about online advertising and how to do it right. As much as this confirms that online advertising really works, we know that marketers don't always get it right. The ARF's The Online Advertising Playbook provides critical insight on what sticks and what doesn't in online advertising and marketing." —Greg Stuart, CEO and President, Interactive Advertising Bureau and coauthor of What Sticks " The Online Advertising Playbook 's principles, case studies, and strategic insights equip marketers with the best knowledge available. It will help your online advertising achieve the full range of marketing objectives, from lead generation and customer acquisition to driving trial and loyalty." —Tim Kopp, Vice President, Global Interactive Marketing, The Coca-Cola Company "To grow interactive marketing from here we need to institutionalize our wisdom and experience about what works. This book explains, in a disciplined way, what marketers have learned from a decade of massive change." —Ted McConnell, Interactive Innovation Director, Procter & Gamble " The Online Advertising Playbook is a milestone in the maturation of interactive advertising, but also an invaluable go-to guide for managers trying to make smart decisions with their advertising budgets." —Van Riley, Vice President of Research, AOL "The best marketing communication is spawned from what I call 'informed intuition.' After reading The Online Advertising Playbook , I am far better informed on how to optimize the online channel in our advertising and promotional programs. It's a perfect blend of case studies and research-backed learning." —Rod DeVar, Manager, Advertising and Promotion, United States Postal Service "Savvy marketers should take advantage of The Online Advertising Playbook 's findings and principles to get real results." —Chris Theodoros, Director of Industry Relations, Google "A work of wisdom and rigor in the digital space that is as relevant for the newbie as it is for the digerati." —Mike Donahue, Executive Vice President, American Association of Advertising Agencies "This is a must-read for any marketing executive involved in online advertising. It's high time that a book looks at online advertising in the context of an integrative promotional strategy, one meant to set objectives, establish creative strategies, and measure results. The book nicely ties the various components of online advertising to relevant case studies, and the emphasis on measurement and results is refreshing. Not only is it relevant for marketing executives, it would also be a good basic text for any Internet advertising course and a good adjunct to any Internet marketing course." —Henry Assael, Professor of Marketing, Stern School of Business, New York University |

Google Advertising Tools $23.99 When it comes to advertising on the web, you just can't argue with the numbers. A $7 billion market today is expected to grow to $18.9 billion by 2010. Jupiter Research also estimates that search advertising will be a larger share of the market than display advertising by 2010. These phenomenal numbers are due largely to Google, which has changed the way the world publishes content - and advertises. Google Advertising Tools from O'Reilly examines the business and technology behind making money with content and advertising on the web. This focused, easy-to-read guide shows you how to use Google's advertising services to make it happen. The Social Media Revolution
With all of the technological breakthroughs in the world, many aspects of doing business have changed. Marketing is no different. Newspapers ads have become unprofitable and nearly obsolete, Magazines are passe. Even billboards have gone digital. So how is your business changing its marketing strategy?
If you think a big part of advertising on the internet is getting your name to the top of Google? PageRank, you are right. That is a massive key in customer attraction. So How do you do that? Paid advertisements on Google are one way to do it albeit much less effective than advancing your position on the Google search results page by becoming a reputable website (increasing PageRank). Now you want to know how this is done. The process of increasing your Google PageRank is done by search engine optimization through the use of link-building and social media marketing.
If you haven't considered this or haven't done any changing to your marketing strategy yet, the time to do so is now. Twitter adds 300,000 new users every day (fiercemobilcontent, 2010). Facebook is adding over 700,000 new users every day (insidefacebook, 2009). Social networking sites are literally growing by the millions. These social network members are communicating about their personal lives but part of that is talking about their professional endeavors, the products and services they use and their ideas about technological advances. Are they talking about your business?
The idea of marketing a faceless corporation is dead. Customers want to buy from someone they know. They are obviously listening to their peers for advice and not to some paid professional who is just trying to sell something. 61% of people rely on user reviews for product information or research before a buying decision is made. (Razorfish, 2008) If your website isn't getting exposure on social networks, these customers are not making reviews on your product or service.
Talk to your customers. Take advantage of this goldmine of networking and start getting your name out in places you never imagined possible until now. The process of writing and publishing blogs, articles, press releases, videos and podcasts is what helps you build your links to other reputable websites. The more links you have to your website, the higher your PageRank will be.
Building a following on social networking sites will help you gain credibility with your customers. When they can read what you are writing about your expertise and knowledge of your industry they will be much more inclined to not only buy from you, but recommend you to their friends. Remember: customers want to buy form someone they know.
