Should I Buy A Retro Game or Get an Emulator?
With the technology of today, growing and expanding daily. A computer can do more and more everyday. Not to mention how the graphics on a Playstation 3 look on an HD TV. They are simply remarkable. So that brings me to my next point, should I still buy a used retro video game. Or should I just download an emulator for free and be done with it.
An emulator is a copied version and functions of one program, written to be played on another completely different system. This means you take a game, like Donkey Kong, copy the version and functions of the game. Then play the copied version on another system or device. So in theory you can take a ColecoVision version of Donkey Kong and play it on your Playstation Portable Console.
For many emulators to play or perform properly the emulator needs the proper firmware or software to play the program. On a Playstation Portable, you need certain firmware which in theory allows you to break the fire wall so to speak so the emulator can play the game properly. Many emulators can just be placed on a memory card; you just have to make sure the console you are using has the proper firmware to run the emulator on the memory card.
There is just about an emulator for just about any video game you can think of today. Going back to the Atari 2600, Nintendo NES and so on. You can find all you favorite games from when you were a kid. Emulators are great because you can save your games, as you play. If you remember when playing the Nintendo NES, when you died you had to start the level from the beginning. With an emulator you can save your progress, and you can restart from any point where you saved from. So that right their in itself is awesome.
Heck the technology has gotten so advanced that you can even find emulators for the latest game titles on the market. Yes Microsoft and Sony do not what you to do this, but the information is right at your fingertips if you just look.
Many gamers will argue the notion, that playing the original game. Is a way better experience than playing an emulator. Emulators are not flawless, the speed of the game can go from slow to fast, or the game may not run at playable speeds. Then you always could have a slow lapse here and their. I will admit the idea of breaking out my original NES and playing is an humbling experience. That takes me right back to my childhood, when you think about it that is what it is all about anyway.
