Terrorists are on the move in Sin City and it's up to you to do them in. Many an improvement has been made on the original game to keep your inner tactical shootist happy. First up is multi-player. There's more of it. Specifically, there are 13 new maps to creep around and shoot your way through. Ubi's also delivered a couple of new adversarial modes, more rewards than before and easier access to matches using the game's matchmaking system. That brings us nicely on to the game's co-op mode. This time around, a second player will be able to jump into the fray at any time. In fact, the single-player maps and story were put together with just this in mind, so the whole experience ought to be smooth as a (insert reference that won't get us into trouble here). Ubisoft has also cranked up the AI a notch, fitting out the enemies of freedom with thermal vision, night vision and shields. No doing the terrorist-type thing with a spork for these guys, oh no. It wouldn't be much of a sequel if it didn't sport new weapons and gear for the player to use too, would it? Ubisoft has obliged. 11 new weapons have been thrown in, along with new camouflage, clothing and gear. You'll be able to chuck that onto a character that persists through both single and multi-player modes. After faltering slightly with the last few instalments, the series makes a (slightly surprising) move from war-torn Middle-Eastern type locations to the bright lights of Las Vegas. The fate of the free world once more teeters on the brink, and it's up to you and your team to make your way through neon decadence and tipsy tourists to make things safe for freedom, democracy and Mom's good ol' apple pie. You'll need to defend well-known locations such as Fremont Street and the Strip against a new level of terrorism as Vegas lies under siege. Tactics are going to play a major part in your success as you manoeuvre a new team through a multiple path environment, with each team member having their own specialities and skills. Plenty of high-tech goodies (such as snake cams to 'tag' your enemies for your team-mates) are on offer to aid you in your planning and execution, whilst your team-mates utilise their expertise to make tactical suggestions such as hacking computers and smashing through walls. Anyway...for a series not renowned for its graphics, Vegas looks really good. The city-scapes are nothing short of stunning, with the developer really going to town using the next-generation specs for realistic backdrops and gorgeous lighting. dark Sector (Xbox 360) $4.99 It's been a long road getting to the publication of Dark Sector. It was announced by Digital Extremes way back in the heady days of 2004, back when the Xbox 360 was still the Xbox 2. It's been that long coming. Four years on, and the year 2008 sees the release of the game in partnership with D3 Publisher of Europe. This third-person shooter has much in common with Gears of War in its cover system, forcing you to run from one spot to another or watch your brains decorate the wall. If you're going to spend your hard earned cash on Dark Sector, however, it won't be for just another third-person shooter. Nope, you'll be buying it for the glaive. 'The what now!?' you may well cry. Probably best for a bit of plot at this point. Players take on the role of Hayden Tenno, a special agent dispatched to a small former-USSR country named Lasria to take care of a nasty chap going by the name of Mezner. Mezner, you see, has gone and got his paws on a chemical weapon that has folk into all sorts of nasty, monstrous types with strange abilities. Not far into the mission, however, he gets exposed to the weapon and finds himself with a metal-like arm. A bladed disc grows out of his arm, and lo and behold, you have the glaive. The glaive can do all sorts of wonderful things. As well as being thrown for a spot of decapitation, it can be used for things like stealing fire, ice and electricity and then hurling them at your opponents. As you progress through the game, the number of abilities the glaive gives you will keep on trundling upwards. As you'd expect from any shooter in the age of the wonderful Interweb, Dark Sector comes complete with a multiplayer mode, supported either online or over LAN. |
Few questions about Rainbow Six Vegas 2?
Thinking of getting it for my Xbox 360, but I'm curious about a few things.
1. How do you earn points to raise your rank? I do not get the whole A.C.E.S. thing, and can you earn points by getting kills and such like in CoD4?
2. How does the radar thing work, when do you show up on it?
3. Can you like grapple down a wall, or up a wall in multiplayer on xbox live?
4. Does your character's outfit stay with you when you play on Xbox live? Or does it only show in single player?
5. Can you put a silencer AND a sight on a weapon?

By radar, I mean does it always show whos there, like in Halo, or is it like call of duty, where you show up when you shoot without a silencer, or is it something else?
