Fix PS3 Black Screen Error In Under 10 Minutes For Free
We are all familiar with common PS3 console errors such as the yellow light of death and the blinking red LED problem. Despire being a pretty well-sorted gaming platform, the PS3 still has its fair share of error codes and technical difficulties. However, the "black screen" (or blank screen) error is somewhat less common, but no less frustrating when it occurs. In this article you are going to learn step-by-step exactly what you need to do in order to fix the PS3 black screen error yourself in under ten minutes. And the best news is that it probably won't cost you a penny.
Before we look at the repair method let's take a moment to examine what causes the black screen of death. This problem is not caused by overheating (unlike the yellow light error) nor is it caused by a hard drive problem (unlike the red light error) it is, in fact, caused by a problem with either your HDMI cable or your video display settings.
Now that you know the cause of the problem, here is how you can fix it yourself:
- Power down your PS3 console and check that the HDMI cable is properly plugged into both your console, and into your TV or monitor.
- If all seems good, try borrowing or using a spare HDMI cable- a faulty cable can cause the black screen error to occur. If a replacement cable works then discard your faulty cable and enjoy your gaming again.
- If neither of the above options work then you can try restoring your PS3 to its default settings. If done correctly this will NOT delete saved games and personal data, but the author cannot assume any responsibility if this is not the case.
- Place your PS3 in stand-by mode. A red LED should show.
- Hold your finger on the power button until the console powers on and off once.
- Continue to hold down the button until 2 short beeps are heard - remove your finger instantly when you hear these quick beeps.
- You will be prompted to connect a controller via USB. Do so now. You cannot connect a wireless controller when attempting to fix the PS3 black screen error in this way.
- A screen will appear with 6 options available.
- Select option number 2 - Restore Default Settings.
- Click X to continue, then follow the on screen instructions.
- When your PS3 restarts, the black screen of death should be gone.
