After being dropped into chaotic areas of operations, gamers deploy a mouth-watering selection of contemporary firearms to tear through environments and enemies, chaining kills and earning power ups. Blur (PS3) $19.99 When Bizarre Creations, the power-house behind the Project Gotham Racing series, releases a new racing game, it's time for all 360 owning, driving game fans to pay attention. But unlike the PGR games, Blur is available for PC and PS3 too. Before anyone saw the game, Blur had already created a buzz of anticipation due to a series of appropriately blurred, but beautiful screenshots that were released. In them, beautifully modelled cars fought fiercely for position in a series of beautifully lit urban driving locations. Basically, this is PRG5... But it's PGR with a nitrous boost. Twenty cars can take to the track at a time. The tracks are what we've come to expect from Bizarre Creations, beautifully modelled and fabulously detailed. But where PGR often held you back from the environment with barriers, Blur puts you right amongst it, to use and interact with as you jostle for position. Throw in weapons such as projectiles, energy waves that will knock opponents out of the way and EMPs that will disable enemy cars and you've got a bizarre mash-up of PGR and Mario Kart. In on-line modes, all twenty cars can be player controlled. And the gameplay is tied to a social network, so as you race, you'll meet and befriend other players, develop rivalries, even gain fans. And players can expand the game and the community by creating and sharing new game play modes. If you're looking for a more party based experience, up to four player can compete in local multi-player mode. |

Bodycount (PS3) $19.99 A first-person shooter from the mind and design talents of designer Stuart Black – who was co-designer on the classic Black from 2006 - Bodycount uses the EGO Game Technology Platform from Codemasters (Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising). Bodycount sees the gamer caught up in a worldwide power struggle where they fight on behalf of the ‘Network’. As an agent of the Network the gamer has free-reign – or a Green Light – to take out enemy ‘Targets’. High up the list of gaming elements to take note of in Bodycount is Ego-driven environmental destructibility. Basically, if you you can see it, you can destroy or at least deform it. This is not only satisfying, it also creates a dynamically-changing game-play environment. Given the changing state of the play area, a good cover system is required. Bodycount’s cover system enables the player almost total flexibility to battle while still in cover. The game can be played in single-player or once online there are also multi-player online modes such as Team Deathmatch as well as co-operative game modes. Just try to make sure you're not part of someone else's bodycount! |

Yoostar2 (PS3) $24.99 Yoostar2 allows players to perform in hundreds of famous movie scenes, record their performances, and share them with friends and family online. The Kinect for Xbox 360 sensor and the PlayStation®Eye allow Yoostar2 to achieve Hollywood “green screen” style effects without the use of a green screen. In an instant, players can literally step into well-known movie scenes and play the roles of the world’s most famous actors. “Yoostar2 will bring the magic and fun of Hollywood into living rooms across America,” said Gregory Fischbach, President and CEO, Yoostar Entertainment Group. “The new console platforms have allowed us to make the experience totally immersive and incredibly easy.” Once a scene is recorded, players can upload their performances to Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network or the PlayStation®Network, share the performances on social networks such as Facebook and Yoostar.com and view them on virtually all devices, including Smart Phones, PC’s and Consoles. Players increase status through community participation, such as sharing, rating and commenting on others’ performances. “We have created something entirely new—a ‘Social Video Game’ that bridges the worlds of social games and video games,” said Fischbach. “The result is a game that’s incredibly fun to play with friends, lets you create and share your own video online, and provides a social game mechanic that motivates you to play and participate in the community. It’s like nothing the video game industry has seen before.” Yoostar2 features an innovative user interface driven by Kinect for Xbox 360 gesture-based technology and PlayStation®Move motion controllers and created by Blitz Games Studios, one of the world’s leading game developers. Players’ performances are scored, allowing them to rise from “struggling actor” to “superstar”, but the game also encourages improvised performances that draw on players’ creativity. Yoostar2 features multiple gameplay modes, including a “party mode” that allows a group of players to perform in quick succession and a progression mode where players face a series of challenges and unlock new scenes. Yoostar has secured world-class movie content from leading motion picture studios, including Paramount, Universal, MGM, Lions Gate, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and CBS. The Yoostar library features hundreds of iconic movie scenes and top Hollywood talent. The game comes with 60 scenes, and players can purchase and download additional scenes from the Yoostar library during or apart from gameplay. |

MAG (PS3) $9.99 Zipper has had a lot of practice in creating online spec-op games. Now the creators of SOCOM have their sights set on a bigger goal – have as many players battling for clan supremacy as possible. The result is MAG, which in turn offers a refreshing bout of organised chaos on the PlayStation Network. It starts off simple enough. Pick a side. There are three 'Private Military Corporations (or PMCs) that you can sign up for, each with their own style, approach and abilities. Then you simply build your personal soldier up from small-time rookie to Platoon Commander, in online skirmishes that can host up to 256 players. Of course, in such a large-scale environment, communication is key to survival – as well as team work. Each player is assigned to one of several eight-player squads. These squads each have a Leader; someone who has ranked up enough in the game to earn the position will get this privilege. Squads then build up to form a 32-player Platoon, again with a Leader for each. Platoons make up a 128-player Army, which has a Commander General with the power to enact certain orders and last-minute abilities. These battles are all par for the course in the Shadow War, a persistent battleground that changes landscape every time you log on. Once you sign up for a team, you should be ready to commit to its victory, 100 per cent! Now, where did we put that microphone? |

Transformers: War For Cybertron (PS3) $24.99 Transformers is a franchise that remains dear to the kids of the 1980s, but recent film reboots from Michael Bay seem to be missing one key element – Cybertron! It's nice to see Optimus Prime and Megatron duking it out, but it would be even better to see it on their war-torn turf. War for Cybertron takes you right into the heart of the Transformers' home; an epic wasteland of twisted technology and broken circuits. All because the Autobots and Decepticons couldn't get along. So sad. Not only do we get to see the alien planet in its entirety, the story for the game acts as a prequel of sorts, telling the tale of the civil war that led to a most bitter rivalry. As a result, you get to clomp around as one of the Autobots or Decepticons in a third person adventure that strings multiple close-quarter firefights together. As well as pummelling your foes, you also get some long-range weapons, missiles and the ability – of course – to transform. Doing this allows you to use some unique abilities – Optimus can turn into a truck and zoom out of harm's way, or ram opponents for example. Team-based co-op play is available, or you can turn against your friends and compete in a number of multiplayer modes. Transformers: War for Cybertron features two distinct storylines: the AUTOBOT campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet against overwhelming odds, and the DECEPTICON campaign tells a story of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe. For the first time in a TRANSFORMERS title, fans will be able to play the game with their friends through team-based online co-op, or go head to head in a variety of intense, online multiplayer game modes. The game features a sci-fi art style that introduces to fans the entire living, metallic world of CYBERTRON, as well as all-new visualizations of the iconic TRANSFORMERS characters in their original Cybertronian forms. The exclusive content unlocks the character “Shockwave”, the Decepticon’s military operations commander! Content is included in the box. *Available on Xbox 360 or PS3 only. Broadband connection required. Xbox LIVE® Gold Membership or Playstation Network ® required for download. Character available in multiplayer Escalation mode only. While stocks last.
