Panasonic TC-P50GT30 Review
Panasonic wants you to "step into the 3D World" with their TC-P50GT30 Viera 50 3D Plasma HDTV. But 3D comes with a price – is this TV worth it?

Though the TC-P50GT30 has a lot to be proud of, the first thing everybody wants to know about is the 3D, so let's take a look at that. Panasonic uses their Full-HD Frame Sequential technology to create the 3D effect. Basically, what they do is show programming that is recorded in 1920 x 1080 pixels. Shown at 120 frames/second, frames are alternately flashed on-screen for the left and right eyes. To get the 3D effect, you wear a Panasonic's 3D eyewear, in which the lenses have miniature shutters that open and close in either eye in unison with the images shown on the TV. The net effect is you seeing things in 3D.
(Do note that the TC-P50GT30 doesn't come with the 3D eyewear, so you'll have to pick up a pair separately for each individual that will be watching 3D at the same time.)
3D isn't all there is to this, TV, though, as Panasonic has also outfitted it with Infinite Black 2, which are improvements in the plasma's panel and cells so that not only is contrast much more clear, but blacks and other dark colors still seem very deep and rich when in brightly lit surroundings, and eliminating glare. This Viera 50 HDTV also implements 3D 24p Cinema Smoother technology to improve the ‘jerkiness' between frames. What it does is take two frames, analyzes them both, then inserts a supplementary frame between them so that the playback from frame to frame is more smooth and fluid.
Of course, this television also provides many other Viera features. One is Game Mode, which automatically detects optimal viewing settings for your gaming. Another is Viera Connect, which gives you immediate access to several entertainment apps directly on your TV, including youtube, Netflix, Skype, and more. And Viera Link will let you control all your entertainment components with just your Viera remote, as long as they're all inter-connected with an HDMI cable. (So if you want to take advantage of this, be sure to pick up some extra HDMI cables if you don't already have them.)
The set is also environmentally friendly in that not only is the display lead-free, but was designed to have a viewing life of up to 100,000 hours, meaning it could literally be watched 8 hours/day for 30 years.
Customer reviews at Amazon and Panasonic's website thus far have been brilliant – at the time of this writing, every one has been an overall 5 out of 5.
Customers have raved about the quality of the picture, noting that the better the input, the better the output. Or in other words, standard definition programming looked Ok, 720p showed a marked improvement, and 1080p was the best yet. Add 3D to the mix, and you have very satisfied customers.
One customer bought this solely based on the 2D visuals (and the fact that it was a good deal cheaper than a comparable Sony model), and another even went on to note that the TV was virtually as thin as his Droid telephone.
As pleased as customers were, more than one did note, however, that the Viera Cast (Connect) service was a bit slow and laggy at times. However, they also noted that this wasn't a big deal, as they could use the same services via other components they already had (PS3, PC, etc), so how important this would be to you would depend on what you already own.
Overall, customers were very pleased, would recommend, and would buy again.
