Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) $9.99 If you've got some latent aggression you need to work out having spent £425 on your new PS3, Sega has just the game for you. Virtua Fighter returns in all its arcade, physics-based, violent glory. Virtua Fighter 5 brings the killer franchise to the next generation of home console, rendering every bone-crunching blow in glorious high definition. The title features an all-star cast of 17 fighters. Characters from the series' previous instalments will feature alongside two newbies: El Blaze and Eileen. El Blaze is a fighting champion hailing from Mexico who brings his slightly campy sounding Lucha Libre style to the arena. Eileen (who isn't your grandma's friend from up the road) hails from China and uses a Monkey Kung Fu discipline she learned from her Kung Fu master grandpa. The game's customisation aspect will allow players to compete for prizes to earn a bit of cash. Then off you go to the game's store to buy items that'll allow you to customise your fighter. Who knows, it might be just what the doctor ordered to get your girlfriend into beat 'em ups. Also new to the series is the Offensive Move. This brings a more tactical element to the game by allowing you to approach your opponents from the side. |

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3) $9.99 Okay, so what fans of realistic driving sims with a PS3 sitting in their living rooms are probably really waiting for is Gran Turismo 5. But you can't always get what you want. What you can get is a big old slice of Gran Turismo goodness at cut price with GT5 Prologue. So, what do you get? There are two main modes of play: Arcade and Event, and there are none of the traditional Gran Turismo driving tests or licenses to work through. Diving straight into Arcade mode is a good way to get familiar with the tracks and cars. There are five circuits: Suzuka, Fuji Speedway, Daytona Speedway, Eiger Nordwand (first seen in Gran Turismo HD Concept) and London - each of which can be played in some alternative form, either in reverse or via a different route. Arcade mode has Single Race and Time Trial options… yeah, all standard stuff, but you'd complain if it wasn't there. Event mode is more of a structured challenge. You start out with 3,500,000 credits, which is enough to buy one of the six cheapest cars from Prologue's full range of 40 cars. The chequered flag waves and you get to enter any of Prologue's eight C-class challenges, which include model-specific time trial challenges and races, and a mission race around the new Daytona Speedway track. Finish in at least third place on these events and you'll unlock eight B-class challenges. Do the same thing there and you'll be racing A-class events. Credits won in events can be used to buy new cars for your garage... yes, cars! Everything from Ferraris to Alfas to Lotusessess (our word) to Minis and TVRs are on offer. It might not be the full GT5, but it should keep you going. |

Army of Two (PS3) $9.99 Rogue private military corporations have enflamed hot spots around the globe: Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq and a battle-crippled aircraft carrier. China and Miami are both under siege. Only Rios and Salem, two war-hardened mercenaries, are capable of quelling the violence and corruption afflicting these vulnerable warzones. It will take their Army of Two to halt the corporations' violent tactics and restore some peace. Fight alongside your team-mate to become the deadliest two-man military outfit a government can buy. Breakthrough gameplay, with a live or adaptive AI partner, enables you to take advantage of two-man strategies like customisable weapons, vehicles and tactical shooting. If you're going to survive, you'll have to bring down a vast conspiracy in which the line between the good guys and the bad guys has been obliterated. |

The Sims 3 (PS3) $24.99 The Sims is one of the gaming sensations of the 21st century. Since the series was launched in 2000, it has spawned a host of successful sequels, and The Sims 3 is the latest and greatest of them all. The series, which took the step from isometric perspective to 'real' 3D with The Sims 2, has now taken another step towards increased realism. The Sims world is now one seamless, continuous map. Your Sims can roam throughout their neighbourhood, visit neighbours’ homes and explore the surroundings. They can stroll downtown to hang out with friends, meet someone new at the park, or run into colleagues on the street. The graphics are enhanced to make the Sims and their environment look far better than ever before. Creating a Sim is now more sophisticated than ever too. You can create Sims who look like yourself or anyone you know. You can choose your Sim's body-type - thin, fuller figures or muscular, and anything in between. Then fine-tune every aspect of their Sims face, change their hair colour and their skin tone. You can dress your Sim what publisher EA claims to be infinite fashion, make-up, and accessory styles. Beauty is just skin deep, so you can also select your Sim's character using an innovative trait system. Select from dozens of personality traits and combine up to five traits to make a variety of interesting characters, to populate your neighbourhood. Create an idealistic, creative dreamer who has a hidden daredevil streak, or an insensitive, vapid socialite whose deepest secret is that she is actually a genius. With The Sims 3, it's completely up to you. Once you've created your Sims, you can give them long term goals, and a career. You give them a job in politics or the army. Make them a criminal or even a scientist. Where they travel to work depends on what job they do. Their job, and how well they do at it, determines how much they earn, and what you can buy with it. You'll need money to expand your home, and buy things like a car or nicer furniture. The Sims 3 lets you do all the things you like to do in real life (and some things you might not like, like going to school) all without leaving the comfort of your own couch. |

Condemned 2 (PS3) $9.99 Serial killers, booze, tense psychological horror, whacking folk with toilet seats. All in a day's work for Ethan Thomas. The star of SEGA's Condemned is back, and he's lurking in the dark again looking for bad men. The events of Ethan's past have left him broken, wandering aimlessly through society and spending a bit too much time with the bottle. He's brought back, however, to look for his missing partner. Now he's neck deep in a conspiracy and struggling to stay afloat. Condemned 2 continues the grim horror of the first game in first-person style. As Ethan, players will deal with enemies using guns, a new combat system with defensive and offensive combos and... just about anything that comes to hand. The chances are, in Condemned 2, if it looks like a weapon, then it can be used as one. Get ready to knock the snot out of someone using the aforementioned toilet seat. New to this sequel is online multiplayer. Naturally you'll get the usual deathmatch variations, but also included are the brilliantly named Bum Rush (agents versus bums) and Crime Scene, a sinister version of hide and seek in which one team secretes evidence around the environment and another dashes around to find it. If you've ever got the urge to get drunk and solve crimes, we suggest you buy Condemned 2 rather than trying it in real life. |
