Kata Beach in Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Ko Pha Ngan are the four most popular islands south of Thailand.  There are other islands though that pepper the Andaman Sea of Thailand and can easily be transverse by ferry rides.

Phuket island undoubtedly attracts the most tourists all year round.  It has been estimated that more than one third of tourists that come to Thailand ultimately make a detour to the beaches of Phuket Island.  The 2004 tsunami that devastated the beaches in Phuket is a shadow now as the island and its beautiful beaches have fully recovered.   What is great though is that rates in most hotels in the area are comparatively lower than their pre-tsunami rates.

A few minutes from Karon Beach in Phuket is Kata Beach. It has become one of the most sought-after beaches in Phuket because the place exudes a wholesome and friendly ambiance. The beaches of Kata boast of some of the most luxurious yet quite affordable accommodations south of Thailand.  For those traveling on a budget, there are inexpensive lodgings available in Kata all year round.

Kata Beach's 1.5 kilometers of pristine sand and crystal clear blue water attracts tourists like honey to bee.  The area is noted for its great water sports activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing and swimming.   There is an activity to match each tourist. If water sports are not in line, you can always grab a sport under one of the shady palms in the beach and bask in the sun.

Treat yourself to a relaxing spa treatment.  Thai massage is known for soothing away stress. Its calming effect is based on centuries of traditions handed down from generation to generation. Exotic and essential oils are used for massages and more often than not a client is left wanting for more.  There are numerous spas in and around Kata Beach. Even hotels have their own versions of spas for their guests. Spas usually offer treatments that include different styles of massages, aromatherapy, reflexology,   facials, seaweed and herbal wraps and a wide range of scintillating fresh water baths to cap your "spa" day.

The best time to visit Kata, Phuket is during the months of November to April.  The monsoon season had passed and the beaches of Kata are once again calm and tranquil.  This is the best time to indulge in snorkeling and scuba diving. For the more sporty and adventurous tourists, the months of May to October is the time to ride the waves of Kata Yai and Kata Noi.

The town of Kata has retained its old village-like atmosphere. The nightlife is definitely tame and family-oriented.  If you want a more exciting night life you can always go to Patong Beach to experience its throbbing night life.  You can also try the brightly lit bars and clubs on Kata Road.
