F.3.A.R. Burnout Revenge (Xbox 360) $13.95 Just think… incredibly enough, some gamers, somewhere will not have been exposed to Burnout Revenge on its previous release. Players whose first and only console was a 360 (are there really such beings!?) have waited for around four months to get involved, and can now get their mitts on the brute. What have they been missing? Blimey, where to start? Manna from heaven for those not sated by the Electronic Arts-ified Burnout Takedown from 2004, Revenge restates the case for BO's claim as the most insanely quick racing series. Truth told, in the initial gameplay, there's not a great deal of difference between Takedown and Revenge; even as far as an hour into the single-player game, the uptempo sounds of popular beat combos Yellowcard, Bloc Party and Dead 60s are the sole pointer as to the game's release date, what with EA being all up to date and hip to all the best new driving music. Ahem. Oh, the Revenge motif that keeps cropping up too - that's a giveaway. So, after an hour, we've made a hi-definition dent in more than a few shiny cars, and only a 3% impression in the game as a whole. We're no maths geniuses, but we reckon that could mean around 35-40 hours of solo gameplay, depending on how well you progress and whether you're satisfied with a merely 'good' performance and a bronze medal in any given event. Race events are plentiful: Race is as simple as it gets, as you take down rivals in a no-holds barred rampage to the finishing line; Traffic Attack invites you to beat time targets as you race through busy thoroughfares; Burning Lap is a beat the clock event; Road Rage gives you a time limit and a remit to take out as many rivals as possible; Eliminator is a last-man-standing event; Preview is a quick test drive of some ridiculously fast vehicles against the clock; and GP Race is a multi-race battle, the fastest of the lot. Through Xbox Live, the 'brand-new-for-360' Live Revenge feature tracks your rivals and calls out those that need some serious payback. Build up relationships with gamers that you take out, or take you down, and then let Live Revenge recall them and tell you how they are literally rubbing you up the wrong way. Burnout Revenge is about long memories and short tempers, especially on 360. Crash events are preceded by a fly-by crash-camera sequence from which you can plan a trail of destruction to score the maximum of points, and are an interesting diversion from the main game at best. The second iteration of Burnout (Point of Impact) still features - in our opinion - the ultimate version of the Crash event. Still, there's hours of fun to be had in both solo and multi-player modes. There's a World Tour campaign to take on, with its own Crash and Race events. It's all a bit too reminiscent of Burnout Takedown to be an absolutely essential purchase for those who still have the 2004 game in their possession, but to the few gamers who have resisted the franchis |

Deadly Premonition (Xbox 360) $13.95 If you were from Japan then you'd know this survival horror outing as Red Seeds Profile, thankfully Access Games and Ignition Entertainment have decided to translate it and bring it over to Europe under the title Deadly Premonition. If you're old enough or enough of a cool-TV geek you will definitely recognise references to the 1980s classic TV show, Twin Peaks, as you control FBI agent, Francis York Morgan, as he investigates the murder of a young woman called Anna Graham in and around the town of Greenville. The characters such as sheriff George Woodman and deputy Emily Wyatt, are not as strange as Detective Morgan himself – or his alter ego "Zach". All this is carried out in a sandbox/open-world environment which gives the gamer the freedom to choose how to investigate the murder and explore the town of Greenville and its outlying regions. Players of Resident Evil 4 will recognise the camera perspective... Players familiar with the quirkiness of Twin Peaks will also appreciate the fact that the lead character must maintain Hygiene Points, which means he's got to take care of and change his clothes from time to time! He's also got to maintain and fuel any of the vehicles that he makes use of... there's more to crime fighting than guns and evidence. It's also a good idea to make use of the day/night cycles that run through the gameplay, although time can be accelerated by use of a less than healthy in-game device. As with any good survival horror title, Deadly Premonition sees the Detective not only solving mysteries and collecting clues, he must also battle strange and fierce creatures. |

The Simpsons Game (Xbox 360) $13.95 The Simpsons is an international treasure, no messing. For those who like their animated comedy with a hefty dose of sarcasm, satire and plain ol' daftness, well, The Simpsons has been doing it best for longest. The good news for gamers and fans of the show is that the family from 742 Evergreen Terrace finally gets the game it deserves in the shape of…aww, I've forgotten the title. D'oh! The Simpsons Game! That's it! The thing is, it's not merely a Simpsons game. There are 16 parody-filled episodes to play through, and if you're a regular gamer and/or film-watcher, then you'll recognise some of the blockbusters the developer is having fun with, by inhabiting the films and games in question with Homer and company. Without wanting to blow the plot, expect to see some Harry Potter-esque scenes along with what looked to us like an Eragon/Lord of the Rings/Reign of Fire mickey-take, and many more. Along with playable Marge, Homer, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, there are around 170 characters with whom to interact, including Mr Burns and his lovelorn PA Smithers, the hapless Springfield police department, and an angry-looking primate that bears a remarkable resemblance to Homer. The story has been crafted by the writers of the show and the movie, and we all know how funny those are. The combination of great gameplay and genuinely funny characters will ensure that fans will be delighted with The Simpsons Game, and there might be a few converts along the way too. |

Disney Sing It (Xbox 360) $8.95 Could Karaoke games be the new platformers? It's just possible. Sony has the SingStar franchise, Konami has Karaoke Revolution and Microsoft is on board with Lips. While each of those games has their audiences, however, they don't present the family-focussed catalogue provided by Disney's Sing It. Disney has, let's face it, a roster of artists and shows made for this genre. Drawing on the catalogue provided by the Disney Channel's original series and movies, Sing It boasts the talents of, among others, Camp Rock, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, Jesse McCartney and Aly & AJ. There are a total of 35 tracks on offer right off the disc, with more offered for download via Xbox Live. The format will be familiar to anyone who's warbled along to a karaoke game before – the appropriate music video does its thing in the background while the lyrics float across the screen and players try to match the pitch, which is shown off by a coloured pitch bar. To make sure players get a unique Disney experience, however, there are seven skins from favourite Disney shows and artists to choose from. To get the whole family involved there are a handful of multi-player modes, including duet, player versus player, and team play. For those whose crooning leaves something to be desired, there's also a selection of vocal exercises that show players how pros perfect their art. Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox 360) $3.99 Sequels are big business in the games industry. Once a studio hits on a successful idea, there’s often a lot of pressure from publishers to continue the winning formula. And while some people like to bring out a sequel every year, others spend an age getting just one ready. Rare have spent five and a half years on the sequel to Perfect Dark on the N64. Itself a spiritual sequel to the dearly beloved Goldeneye, Perfect Dark won the hearts of hardened 'Goldenistas' with hugely customisable multiplayer modes and a fun story mode that even supported two player co-operative play. Since then, a sequel has been slated for GameCube; then - following the Microsoft buy-out - for Xbox. With the perfectionists at Rare unable to keep their hands off it, it slipped again to Xbox 360. But perhaps this is a blessing, and Perfect Dark Zero standing proudly shoulder to shoulder with its comrades in the Xbox 360 launch line-up is a stirring sight. The story once again concerns itself with the adventures of svelte lovely Joanna Dark. As is increasingly common in this genre, the game is in fact a prequel to the well-loved original Perfect Dark and tells the story of how she entered the employ of the Carrington Institute as a trusted member of their corporate espionage division. Three years before the events depicted on N64, Joanna embarks on a mission for the first time with her bounty hunter ex-cop father. What follows are 13 episodes that show how Joanna cut her teeth during a particularly fierce flare-up between eternal enemies the Carrington Institute and dataDyne Corp. Get that catsuit nimble feeling of girlyness as you roll and skip round each stage, toting a satisfying array of chunky weaponry. Detractors of the first Perfect Dark said that the graphics were too ambitious - sometimes appearing a muddy mess. That’s not a criticism that the Xbox 360 version is going to face. PDZ already looks like something from the year 2020, ferchrissakes - handy, seeing as that's the setting for the game. With a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound facility and a big TV, the big guns look and sound...well, bigger than ever. FIFA 10 (Xbox 360) $3.99 Electronic Arts' FIFA Soccer franchise was – for a while – in second place in the soccer game market. FIFA 2009 put an end to that, and the 2010 version looks very much as if it's going to maintain the high standards. Key additions to the latest version are much improved goal-keeper AI and reactions. No longer does your keeper simply lie forlornly on the deck if a chip goes over him, now he will attempt to get back to the goal line and tip the ball away. The additional AI also means that the keeper will look to narrow angles and generally cause the strikers more mental stress than has been available in the past. And he'll need to. Outfield players are now armed with a new 'Urgency' system to complement the 360-degree dribbling that how adorns the game. These are all helped out by the ability to actually muscle other players (legally but firmly) off the ball. 360-degree dribbling? Yes, no longer do you have to track around in huge circles in order to go in a straight line. There is far more – and far tighter - control than ever before. The fluidity of this means that the game flows more as you have to remember fewer button presses. Pre-game training has also been improved with the addition of a new set-piece creator that enables you to plan several multi-player moves that can be quickly incorporated in a real-game situation; strategy and real footballing knowledge will be at a premium to get the most out of the game. Another addition to training is the ability to train with your real-life mates (up to four of them at a time) locally as you prepare to take you team into the global game of multi-player, ranked FIFA 2010. Online FIFA is thrilling, testing and could see you recruited into international teams. Oh, you'll also get to map your very own face onto a virtual player to really rule the world. •360° Dribbling—The first-ever true 360° dribbling system in a football game provides finer dribbling control, enabling players to find spaces between defenders that previously were not possible. •Skilled Dribbling—All-new animation warping technology provides unprecedented control.
