Gears of War came out of E3 2006 as one of the most talked about new releases for any next-gen console. A mix of survival horror and combat-based gameplay, Gears of War is set in a wartorn future where mankind is caught in an epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a race of gun-toting nasties that have emerged from the bowels of the planet. And horribly nasty they are too, as they take the concept of ugly to an all-new hyperreal level. You play as Marcus Fenix, a disgraced war-hero who's spent several years languishing in prison. As things start to get out of hand in the outside world, the prisoners get a pardon and you take Marcus and his squad through an apocalyptic wasteland under a barrage of heavy fire. As you make your way through the game, it's a case of duck and cover if you want to survive: too long in the open and you will die, quickly and horribly (with some truly impressive gore effects). Rapid firing on its own just ain't going to cut it. You need to work with your team (who are either controlled by AI in single-player mode or other gamers in multi-player) to outwit your opponents, and it's this element that takes you beyond the realm of the traditional shoot-em-up. The ultimate extension of this is the eight-player deathmatch, which pits two teams of four against each other in what's essentially a 'last man standing' battle. Gears of War has been described as the gaming equivalent of a Hollywood blockbuster. Well, we always figured you could take your kid brother to see the latest big film at the local multiplex, but we recommend that you should expose him to Gears of War only if he does something really reprehensible and deserves to grow up horribly damaged. Everyone playing Warhammer Online knows that this game is centered on PvP. No matter that you choose to be one of the vicious Black Orcs hanging out with the "Choppa Boyz", a Witch Elf vanquishing your enemies with kisses of death or one of the wisest Warrior Priests with the power of light, in this fantasy universe everyone must fight for supreme domination. But to get involved in the end game PvP or RvR battles, anyone must burn down 40 levels (or ranks) first. Public Quests
Public Quests are an original feature of Warhammer Online. Any player can get nice XP, gear and cash doing PQs but there is also a downside. If you don't have a good group, with a at least one tank and one healer, completing the PQ with all its 3 stages is difficult and also time consuming. No matter what class you're playing, the champion mobs that usually spawn in the 2nd stage of any PQ will be very hard to kill solo and just waiting for the PQ to reset to the 1st stage again is a waste of time.
Leveling in Scenarios
Doing scenarios for XP can be a lot of fun, but, again, just like in Public Quests case, if you don't have a good group, to ensure victory in any scenario as well as the completion of the repeatable quests, leveling can be hard. A good setup, for example, to successfully dominate every battle and win would be a Bright Wizard, an Engineer and a Warrior Priest (for Order). The Engineer pulls all the enemies at him, the healer heals and the Bright Wizard AoEs them all, inflicting as much damage as possible.
- When leveling up your toon in Warhammer, if your character has AoE abilities, you must literally abuse of them. Becoming skilled with as an AoE class will help anyone go through the quests faster.
- Another good thing to speed up your leveling is increasing your character's stats by consuming various potions. This will certainly increase the killing rate and also the speed of solving the quests.
Warhammer Online Leveling Guide - Questing Improvement
The Warhammer Online Leveling Guide I've been using is based on completing quests. When you don't have your buddies with you to do scenarios or to complete the PQ with lightning speed, doing normal quests as a solo player is the best solution.
